The Ancient Look and Feel of Mosaics
Queen of Babylon featuring the look and feel of an ancient mosaic from the Royal Place
Mosaics carry an ancient aura primarily due to their deep historical roots and the timeless techniques used to create them.
They evoke the artistry of past civilizations, with each piece meticulously assembled from natural materials like stone, glass, or ceramic. Mosaics capture scenes and motifs that often depict mythology, daily life, or symbolic imagery of ancient cultures. This window into the past, frozen in time, evokes a sense of continuity and connection with the ancient world.
The intricate patterns and scenes often depicted in mosaics—ranging from mythological tales to everyday life—reflect the cultural and symbolic significance of ancient times. Their durability and the labor-intensive process of their creation speak to the devotion and skill of ancient artisans, making mosaics a vivid bridge to the past.
Through the use of traditional materials and motifs, my new mosaic images aim to capture this timeless essence, inviting viewers into a world where ancient myths and modern craftsmanship converge.
The image to the left portrays a Queen of Babylon. The beauty and majesty of the figure is evident but the individual pieces of stone, ceramic and glass in a variety of sizes and shapes add that sense that you are looking at an ancient piece of history that could have graced the walls of the royal palace in Babylon as far back as 2300 B.C.E.
This and many other mosaics are available on the site.
